A-list hair stylist Jen Atkin (her clients include Chrissy Teigen and Kendall Jenner) and founder of Ouai haircare offers a mini-tutorial on how she created Cara Delevingne's double bun hairstyle for the Suicide Squad press tour (No. 25 on The Hollywood Reporter's Top 25 Beauty Moments of 2016.
What was your inspiration for Cara's look?
I was inspired by Harajuku girls and beauty bloggers like Lustre Lux, who've posted cool hair shots.
What products did you use to create the look?
We started with damp hair. I applied Kerastase Thermique anti-frizz cream and Ouai Wave Spray to prep her hair before blowing it out with a round brush. Once Cara's hair was dry, I used a lot of Ouai Texturizing Hair Spray and parted her hair in the center. I made two pigtails at the crown and secured them with Chloe & Isabel pins.
Is there any trick to nailing the look?
If you have long fringe or short pieces, it's best to leave those down, which gives it a cool, flirty, playful vibe. And don't overthink it. The look should be messy and just thrown up - nothing fussy or too done. I used Chloe & Isabel bun cuffs [secured with sticks] to make Cara's look even more punk rock.
