Over the top baby gender reveals like Jessica Alba's are super trendy

Jessica Alba went the creative route when it came to her recent gender reveal. The actress and businesswoman is currently pregnant with her third child. She enlisted her two daughters to help with the big announcement, of which she created a Boomerang and shared on Instagram.

She hoisted a makeshift piñata up in a tree and had her girls pull the strings on the hanging Honest box. When they did, a bunch of blue balloons, streamers, and confetti came out. And we all know blue means boy. The girls, Haven Garner, 6, and Honor Marie, 9, seemed excited to welcome a boy into the family. Alba looked on adoringly in a loose slipdress and a long cardigan. She threw her hands up in the air when the box popped. “@cash_warren and I couldn’t be more thrilled to announce… #officiallyoutnumbered #babyboy #cantwaittospoilhim #hugsandkissesforlife #soontobemamaofthree,” the actress exclaimed in the caption.

While this was an adorable way to announce that she’s having her first boy, it hardly compares to some of the extremely elaborate and hilarious gender reveals that have gone viral in the past. Like when an expectant mom had her mother pop a balloon to find out the gender of her soon-to-be grandchild, and the grandma’s disappointed reaction to the gender reveal of her unborn grandchild went viral. “F***ing girl!” she shouts when she’s showered in pink confetti. The video was posted to Facebook, where it’s been shared over 16,000 times.

Skateboarder Rob Dyrdek and his wife, Bryiana, took this simple balloon method up a notch. “It’s a girl!!!” the 42-year-old Ridiculousness host wrote on Instagram, captioning a slow-motion video of the moment he popped a huge black balloon to reveal pink confetti. They were in front of a big step and repeat surrounded by white balloons. “We decided to wait and let it be a surprise and as you can tell by our reaction we were very surprised! We are so blessed and thankful. We can’t wait to welcome our little princess into our family,” he wrote. The couple’s genuine surprise and excitement was so contagious, we felt like we were right there with them.

Then there are the ridiculously extravagant gender reveals. New Jersey husband Matt Ostergaard turned to the operators of the SkyWheel, a 187-foot-tall, $12 million Ferris wheel in Myrtle Beach, S.C., to surprise his wife when revealing the gender of their child. The magnificent structure, named the tallest wheel in the eastern United States when it opened in 2011, is powered by 1 million LED lights, and they were lit bright pink on this special evening.

Some go for a more stylish approach, like the hair-color reveal trend.

Then there are the really moving moments. Britt Harris’s husband, Chis Harris, a soldier in the U.S. Army, died in Afghanistan a week after she found out she was expecting her first child. His fellow servicemen were making sure Britt didn’t feel alone during her pregnancy, and even took part in the Harris baby’s gender reveal. “I asked if they’d like to be the first to know the gender, and they were really excited,” Britt told ABC News. “I told them I would ship confetti poppers or something, and they could be the first to know and feel included.” Members of Chris’ squadron gathered together to film the poppers releasing pink confetti in honor of the fallen soldier.

The direction gender reveals are going, they are only going to get more extreme, creative, and emotional.
