Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell were ecstatic about the Astros' World Series win

Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell, two players who spent their entire careers with the Houston Astros, made it to the World Series as teammates in 2005. But they were swept in four games by the Chicago White Sox, and both retired without raising that trophy.

Twelve years later, the only two Astros in the Baseball Hall of Fame got to watch their beloved team win it all.

Both Biggio and Bagwell were at Dodger Stadium with their wives on Wednesday night, and they got to witness the Astros first-ever World Series championship. And when it was all over, the two legendary Astros got to celebrate with the team on the field. And the emotions were running wild. Biggio said this to MLB.com:

“You’re old, you cry now,” Biggio said. “It’s what you’re supposed to do.”

But also did this to Jose Altuve.

The emotions of celebration are many and varied. Biggio managed to find the balance between crying and carrying a baseball player when he said this.

“We tried in ’05 and it just wasn’t meant to be. Thirty years here, getting an opportunity again, and being involved with the organization, it’s special. And it’s got to go down as one of the greatest World Series of all time. What an emotional roller coaster it was. It’s incredible. It’s everything I thought it would be.”

Jeff Bagwell didn’t lift a baseball player in a fireman’s carry, but instead shared this moment with Carlos Correa.

Allyson Footer of MLB.com asked Bagwell if watching the Astros win the World Series was bittersweet after the sweep in 2005, and Bagwell answered with an unequivocal “no.”

“This is their deal,” Bagwell said. “Anybody that played would love to be with those guys right now. But it’s not about us, it’s about them, about A.J. [Hinch] and the coaching staff, the front office and the players. What they did, it’s just special.”

Hopefully Bagwell and Biggio will both get to take part in the parade, which is scheduled for Friday. It won’t make up for 2005, but if you look at the big picture, both Biggio and Bagwell helped the Astros get to where they are now.
