Cowboy Ninja Viking with Chris Pratt gets 2019 release
Chris Pratt will get to play his three-for-one movie role in two years’ time. Cowboy Ninja Viking, a film based on the Image Comics series of the same name, has received a June 28, 2019 release date, courtesy of Universal Pictures.
With art by Riley Rossmo and a story from AJ Lieberman, the first issue was published in May 2010 and introduced a world with “Triplets,” people with multiple personality disorder turned into a “band of ridiculously disturbed but highly effective assassins.” Pratt’s Cowboy Ninja Viking is one of these said assassins with the ability to manifest the toughest skills of three different personas: a cowboy, a ninja, and a viking.
Pratt, who starred in Jurassic World and returned to film the sequel for Universal, was announced for the role in 2014. John Wick co-directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski were courted to helm the project, but scheduling has been difficult with Leitch working on Deadpool 2 after coming off Atomic Blonde. Stahelski, too, hopes to bring a trilogy of Highlander films to life and work has already begun on a possible John Wick 3.
Pratt told Collider of Cowboy Ninja Viking in April, “We’ve got a deal and we’re moving forward. It’s going to be [with] Universal. It’s going to be really, really fantastic … We don’t have a director. It’s together, it’s being put together. But we’re in the process of talking to directors.”
Mark Gordon, Guymon Casady, and Ben Forkner are producing Cowboy Ninja Viking.
