Colonel Sanders, pop culture icon and founder of fast food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken, is the subject of a new Greater Cincinnati mural.

A mural titled "Shogun Sanders" has recently been installed on the Earth To Kentucky toy store building in Mainstrasse Village in Covington. According to a press release, the mural depicts a toy version of Colonel Harlan Sanders as a Japanese military leader standing in an outer space-themed background.

Jonathan Queen, a renowned toy painter and the artist behind the Kenner Toy Heritage Mural in downtown Cincinnati created the mural. Queen actually made a Shogun Sanders toy that he could use as a reference for the 20-foot-tall mural, per a press release.

The new mural is one of 12 unique art projects that will receive funding under the City of Covington's latest Quality of Place Grant program. The "Shogun Sanders" mural received $15,000 in grant funding.A “birthday party” for the new mural will be held on Friday, July 28, at 6 p.m. at Earth To Kentucky, 836 Main St., Covington.
