Jacqui Michel, Hope Geier Smith, Laura Moore Tanne and Patricia Quick were chairwomen for the "Furever Pal-entines" evening, which included a cocktail reception and a silent auction of couture pet beds created by Amanda Lindroth, Bierly Drake and Steele, Dorothy Draper, Edwin Palacio, Lewis Miller, Liz McDermott, Meg Braff, Victor Figueredo and Well Made Home; dinner; and a cash call led by longtime supporter Tom Quick.

A poignant highlight of the evening was the announcement of a new transport van donated by Peter Gottsegen in memory of his late wife, Felicia Taylor, a former Darbster Board member and long-time supporter.

Victor Figueredo and David Granville were chairmen.

Matthew E. Bershadker, president and CEO of the ASPCA, was honorary chairman.

More than 160 people attended, including Deborah Lowham and Keith Cole, David E. Weisman, Ronald Rosenfeld, Ginny Millner, Teri Siben, Jeff Pfeifle, Fred Tanne, Linda Lambert, Karyn Lamb, Rick Pollack, Danielle Rollins and Tom D’Agostino, Kristen Kelly Fisher and Walter Ross, Karen Klopp, Karen and Dan Swanson, Sharon Bush and Robert Murray, Paola Bacchini and Arnie Rosenshein, and a whole lot more whose barks are worse than their bites.

Proceeds from the evening ― a record $600,000 ― assist Darbster Rescue in its mission to reduce the number of animals euthanized in the overcrowded shelters of Florida and other Southern states by transporting them to adoption facilities and no-kill shelters in New England, where there is a high demand for adoptable pets.

In 2023, Darbster Rescue transported 3,587 dogs and cats to forever homes in New England, bringing its total number of rescues to more than 18,700 since its inception.
