Courtney B. Vance Joins Felicity Huffman In ABC’s Political Family Comedy From Kenya Barris & Vijal Patel
People v. O.J. Simpson‘s Courtney B. Vance is set to star opposite Felicity Huffman in ABC’s political family comedy series project Libby & Malcolm (working title) from Black-ish creator/executive producer Kenya Barris and co-executive producer Vijal Patel. Vance also will serve as an executive producer on the show, along with Huffman.
The comedy, produced by ABC Studios, landed at ABC with Huffman on board in September, scoring a big pilot production commitment in a competitive situation. With the addition of Vance, a pilot green light for the project, now boasting two Emmy winners as its leads, is considered a formality.
Written by Barris and Patel, Libby & Malcolm is a blended family show about two polar opposite political pundits — Libby (Huffman) and Malcolm (Vance) — who fall in love despite all odds and form an insta-family as well as a work partnership.
Vance’s Malcolm Black is a smooth, confident Liberal pundit and father of three kids who arms himself with cold hard facts and an irresistible easy charm that wins over everyone he meets. Malcolm recently married, Libby (Huffman) — a strong, brilliant, White Republican who won his heart by knocking him off his feet. Now they’ll forge a new life together at home against all odds while going head-to-head at work on their fiery new political talk show.
Barris executive produces through his Khalabo Ink Society alongside Patel, and Principato Young Entertainment’s E. Brian Dobbins.
Vance won the Emmy for best actor in The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story playing Johnnie Cochran. He will next be seen starring in the DreamWorks Paramount ensemble comedy Office Christmas Party, and alongside Tom Cruise in Alex Kurtzman-helmed The Mummy. Also a Tony winner for Lucky Guy, Vance is repped by Gersh, Lighthouse Entertainment and attorney Darrel Miller.
