Courtney B. Vance & Aunjanue Ellis-Led Drama ’61st Street’ Sets Season 2 Premiere Date

The CW has set a premiere date for Season 2 of 61st Street, the Courtney B. Vance and Aunjanue Ellis-led drama from Peter Moffat, J. David Shanks and Outlier Society. New episodes will arrive beginning on Monday, July 22 at 9 pm.

61st Street tells the story of Moses Johnson (Tosin Cole), a promising Black high school athlete who is swept up into the infamously corrupt Chicago criminal justice system. Taken by the police as a supposed gang member, he finds himself in the eye of the storm as cops and prosecutors seek revenge for the death of an officer during a drug bust gone wrong.

From AMC Studios, 61st Street is executive produced by Moffat, Shanks, Michael B. Jordan and Outlier Society, Alana Mayo, Jeff Freilich and Hilary Salmon.

The title initially aired on AMC Networks but was canceled after one season aired amid the company’s cost-cutting drive last January. Both seasons were shot back to back as it was originally ordered as part of a two-season pickup.

Four months later, the CW picked up Seasons 1 and 2 in partnership with AMC Networks,as Deadline revealed exclusively, It was the first pickup of a U.S.-made scripted series for the new CW regime as part of their programming strategy focused on acquisitions and co-productions.

Season 1 is currently airing repeats on the CW and it’s available via the CW’s website as well as AMC+.
