We would die for this couple. Courteney Cox posted a makeup-free photo for boyfriend Johnny McDaid’s birthday, and the message that accompanied it was so precious. McDaid — Cox’s on-again, off-again partner of six years — celebrated his 43rd birthday on Wednesday, July 24. In honor of her man’s big day, Cox took to Instagram with a sweet photo of the two and an even sweeter caption.

The photo featured the two bare-faced and natural, as they posed for the camera at a beach with a sun flare beaming on their faces. As beautiful as Cox looks without a stitch of makeup, it was her caption to her man that was the true star of the post. “He always listens no matter what is being said. Where others lose interest….he still cares,” the Friends star wrote. “He turns words into poetry and thoughts into songs. He has a tender heart, a beautiful mind, a wicked sense of humor and he’s not bad to look at. Happy birthday J. I love you ♥️” The caption was enough to make Cox’s friends and fellow celebrities, such as screenwriter Lena Waithe and designer Jennifer Meyer, melt. “Yes, love . 🙌🏾,” Waithe commented on Cox’s photo.

Cox and McDaid — a member of the band Snow Patrol — started dating at the end of 2013. They became engaged in 2014 after McDaid proposed to Cox at pal Jennifer Aniston’s house at a birthday dinner for Cox’s daughter Coco, whom she shares with ex-husband David Arquette. However, after a year and a half as fiancés, sources confirmed that the couple called off their engagement in late 2015.

But that didn’t mean their relationship was over. Nowadays, Cox is careful about how she refers to McDaid. The Scream star often refers to him as her “partner” — though “man friend” isn’t too bad of a title either. “My man friend? That’s good. I don’t know if that would go over very well,” Cox told Jimmy Kimmel Live! in January. “He’s my partner. That’s what he calls it, my partner. And I’m from Alabama, so you don’t really say partner unless you’re in the same sex.”

Engaged or not, Cox and McDaid look well in love, and we can’t wait to see more sweet photos of their relationship.
