Courteney Cox Pokes Fun at “Scream” Bangs, Monica's “Friends” Frizz and Other Past ‘Embarrassing’ Hairstyles

The actress hilariously joked about her signature 'Scream 3,' 'Friends' and 'Misfits of Science' hairstyles on Instagram

Courteney Cox is not afraid to laugh at herself ... or her hairstyles!

On Tuesday, the actress, 59, shared a hilarious video on Instagram that showed her being confronted by individuals wearing gray sweatshirts that each featured a photo of one of her classic coifs.

The video begins with Cox petting a dog outside as someone asks her, "What's going on?" After she answers, "Construction," she's drawn to the sweatshirt that has a photo of the baby bangs she sported while playing Gale Weathers in Scream 3.

"What is that? Don't wear that sweatshirt," Cox says. "The bangs? Come on. That's ridiculous. It's embarrassing."

After she heads inside to ask about the construction progress, eerie music is heard in the background as Cox looks at each sweatshirt. The first one she sees shows a photo from her time on Misfits of Science, which followed the "adventures of a team of misfit superheroes who fight crime for a scientific think tank." In the 1985 series, Cox played Gloria Dinallo, who sported a bob that rested above her shoulders.

Before seeing another sweatshirt with her Scream 3 haircut, she sees a sweatshirt with a photo of her frizzy hair in the finale of Friends' ninth season.

Friends aired for 10 seasons from 1994 through 2004 and saw Cox play the role of Monica Geller. She starred alongside Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer.

This isn't the first time Cox has looked back at some of her iconic hairstyles. During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show in January 2022, Cox said her Scream 3 bangs were "the worst."

"I forgot about that. There was nothing worse. That was a big lesson in life because that will forever be on film," she said while appearing with Scream costars Neve Campbell and David Arquette. Cox noted that she always tried to create a different signature look for her character in each film.

"Each Scream I would try to come up with a different look for her that was just over the top gross, or ugly or too much," she said. Most recently, Melissa Barrera paid homage to the hairstyle as PEOPLE's first-ever digital cover girl in March.

Barrera shared a photo from the photoshoot in her Instagram story and wrote that she was "paying homage to @courteneycoxofficial Scream 3 bangs 😍 cause I think they're 🔥."
