Court Grants Johnny Depp’s Request to Keep Amber Heard Divorce Details Private

Johnny Depp’s ongoing divorce from Amber Heard took a new turn after a judge approved his petition to keep the details of the legal proceedings out of the public eye.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, any forthcoming information discovered during the proceedings, including financial information and witness statements, will be designated as confidential. Furthermore, any experts or witnesses who testify in the case will be required to sign a nondisclosure agreement.

Depp had filed a request asking the judge for privacy, explaining in court documents that “Amber’s need for financial information to resolve this case is distinct from the public’s appetite for celebrity divorce.”

He added, “This case has been extraordinarily public since its inception. There have been daily articles in the domestic and foreign press about this proceeding and the parties’ lives.

“Every detail of this action has been chronicled by the media and it has become one of the most heavily publicized celebrity divorces in recent memory.”

Depp claims that he had previously asked Heard to agree to maintain confidentiality, but says she “has inexplicably refused to sign any agreement” to do so.

He also alleges that “Heard and/or her counsel have participated in at least one media story which contained specific provisions from prior settlement communications.”

Finally, the actor asserts that Heard is asking for financial information irrelevant to the case, and is therefore asking the court to quash those allegedly inconsequential requests. He argues that some of the information requested long predates his relationship with Heard, while other “contracts and agreements with movie studios and fashion designers” are already confidential.

He also calls Heard’s alleged requests to subpoena financial information from his Hollywood Vampire bandmates “irrelevant.”
