Country music star and Des Moines' number 2 most streamed Spotify artist of 2023, Morgan Wallen, went hunting for the first time in Iowa before snow covered the state.

Iowa is definitely a fan of Wallen and his music, but now, is he a fan of Iowa? According to Drury Outdoors, an outdoor and sporting goods company, it's more than likely.

Wallen shot his first animal in Iowa and his largest white-tailed deer to date, a Jan. 8 Facebook post from Drury Outdoors said.

"It’s exciting to see his love for the outdoors, conservation, and hunting as a whole," the post said.

Wallen, a Tennessee native, thanked the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for letting "some Tennessee boys in your state," Wallen said in a response to the Facebook post.

Who is Morgan Wallen?

Wallen is a country singer and songwriter from Tennessee with hit songs like "Last Night" from his 2021 album "Dangerous: The Double Album" and "Whiskey Glasses" from his 2018 album "If I Know Me," topping music charts since they were released

Wallen’s hit “Last Night” not only reached the top of Billboard's Hot 100 charts earlier this year, it was Des Moines’ top song of 2023, according to Spotify.

He also competed in the sixth season of the NBC hit show "The Voice" in 2014.

DNR on non-Iowans hunting

Those from out of state can take part in the hunting season in Iowa. According to the Iowa DNR, non-residents, including Tennessee native Wallen, must apply for a non-resident hunting license.

There are different licenses you can apply for. Prices range from $15 to $498 depending on the license. You can learn more about the non-resident hunting license application process at the Iowa DNR's website.
