There's something inherently sold to audiences with a title like Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part One. The dead will reckon, of course. That's a given. But every Part One needs a Part Two. It's the first time in the Mission: Impossible series that a major plotline will move from one film to it next installment. It's an emerging trend in Hollywood, with both Fast X and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse splitting up their respective stories. This probably stems back to the success of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Either that, or filmmakers just realized that cliffhangers are cool. (Sometimes.)

Regardless, when the seventh Mission: Impossible film ends, we're left with only half the story. Even something as silly as the Impossible Mission Force (IMF) can get complicated, of course. And make no mistake, Dead Reckoning goes full Lord of the Rings. There's a new powerful A.I. villain called "The Entity," which has access to the world's technology—and Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) must take a special key to its home and destroy it.

Of course, it's not so simple. Every major power in the world wants that key, and The Entity has also employed the work of a dark figure from Hunt's past named Gabriel (Esai Morales). Who is this guy, and why is Hunt so afraid of him? All will presumably be answered in Part Two—granted that they don't surprise us with a whole trilogy. Below, here's everything we know so far about Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part Two.

What Will Dead Reckoning Part Two Be About?

Much has gone unsolved since the end of Dead Reckoning Part One. Ethan Hunt may have the key, but he has no idea that The Entity lives thousands of miles underwater in an abandoned submarine. Well, we do! Sadly, we can't just yell it at the screen, Dora the Explorer-style. He'll have to figure that one out himself. We'll also (likely) learn about the event that caused Ethan Hunt and Gabriel to become enemies. It seems as if he stabbed and killed a woman—possibly someone close to Ethan, or maybe an associate that they both worked with before Gabriel betrayed them. Oh, and Part Two will also have the destroy The Entity. That A.I. just has to go!

Who Will Return for Part Two?

If you survived Part Two, my best guess is that you'll be back the second installment. Even Pom Klementieff—who barely made it out of this one alive, apparently—will return in Part Two as a new IMF agent. Additionally, Nick Offerman will join as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Tom Cruise, of course, isn't finished. He'll have a new crazy stunt for us—and he'll do it himself. Bravo, sir.

When Will Part Two Premiere in Theaters?

Luckily, we won't have to wait very long. Barring major delays from the WGA and SAG strikes, Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part Two will premiere in theaters on June 28, 2024. It's just a year away, people.
