Could Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid Actually Become Friends?

While it all seems like a distant memory now, especially in the fast-paced world of celebrity relationships, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd started dating two years ago.

However, his equally famous ex, Bella Hadid, was understandably angry and did the most millennial thing she could think of: she unfollowed Selena on Instagram, with Selena doing the same and unfollowing Bella. It was all a tiny dose of internet drama that caused major waves; people chose sides and things got pretty ugly for a while.

Bella Hadid and The Weeknd Have Had A Tumultous Relationship

Bella and The Weeknd started dating in 2015 after he asked her to be on the artwork for his album Beauty Behind the Madness. They broke up just a couple of years later, and in 2017, he started dating Selena Gomez. In 2018, they reunited, splitting again this past summer. It's all enough to make your head spin, and most of us have trouble keeping up.

The singer even attended Hadid's birthday party last month, once again sparking rumors of a reconciliation, something his rep quickly denied, saying, "they just attended as friends."

Selena Gomez and The Weeknd

While Selena Gomez and The Weeknd dated for just a matter of months in 2017, the very public relationship clearly hurt Bella Hadid, and a celebrity feud began. Though they were never considered best friends, they had been seen hanging out together in groups, and there was clearly a friendship between them, however small.

Thus, it would make sense that some kind of girl code should have been established between the singer and model, however that was clearly not the case.

Digitally Proving There Is No Bad Blood

Two years ago, Bella Hadid "liked" an Instagram photo of Selena Gomez taken at the American Music Awards that was posted to the IMGModels Instagram account, thus proving she harbored no resentment towards the singer.

However, it was very recently that Selena started following Bella on Instagram once again, extending what one might call a digital olive branch. She even started following Bella's sister, model Gigi Hadid. Does this mean the pair could soon become besties?

What Will Happen Next?

Bella has yet to return the favor by following Selena Gomez back, but she could just be super busy, being that she is a famous model and all.

Both ladies currently appear to be single, with Selena recently telling Zach Sang on SiriusXM, "I want to know what that love will look like next for me. I want it to be real and I don’t want it to be co-dependent or messy or lack of communication."

She continued, "It sucked for the first year, I was like, 'I just want to cuddle. I just want to watch something and be adored.' But yeah, now it feels good. Now it feels awesome."

You keep doing you, Selena! And, let's hope these two girls can work it out. Who knows, maybe they'll start a new Taylor Swift inspired girl squad?
