Coronavirus: Yahoo answers your questions

Dr. Kavita Patel, a Yahoo medical contributor and nonresident fellow at the Brookings Institution, took on some of our readers’ most pressing issues about the coronavirus during a virtual question-and-answer session on Thursday.

Here are some of the questions Dr. Patel answered during the virtual event, which was moderated by Alex Wallace, the head of media and content at Verizon Media:

  • If I'm home alone all day, do I need to keep washing my hands while I'm not in contact with people besides my immediate family?

  • I'm an expecting father, with a baby due Sept. 9, and am concerned about both the mother and the child. Are any studies being done about how this disease affects both an unborn child and a mother-to-be?

  • Are there any suggested over-the-counter treatments that someone should have at home for symptoms of COVID-19?

  • Is it possible to get COVID-19 more than once?

  • What is the latest on treatments for COVID-19?

  • How is the medical profession dealing with the onslaught of a disease that no one had predicted?
