The coronavirus epidemic is impacting music, film, and other cultural events across the globe. Below, you can find an updated list of the various events canceled and/or postponed due to the coronavirus. We will continue to update this article as more information is made available.
Festivals
— Coachella and its sister country music festival Stagecoach have been postponed until October.
— Bonnaroo has been postponed until September.
— The 2020 edition of Glastonbury Music Festival has been canceled.
— Atlanta’s Shaky Knees Music Festival will now take place in October.
— SXSW 2020 canceled all scheduled programming after city officials in Austin declared a “state of disaster.
— New Orleans Jazz Fest has been postponed until fall 2020.
— Ultra Music Festival, the Miami-based electronic music festival, has been postponed until 2021 due to concerns over the coronavirus. The Winter Music Conference, which was also scheduled to take place in Miami this month, has also been scrapped.
— Netflix Is A Joke Fest has been postponed. A new date is forthcoming.
— Boise’s Treefort Music Festival has been postponed until September.
— Knoxville’s Big Ears Festival will no longer take place in 2020.
— J Cole’s Dreamville Festival has been pushed back to August.
— Pharrell Williams’ Something in the Water Festival has been canceled.
— Goldenvoice has moved the inaugural Cruel World Festival to September.
— Fortress Festival in Fort Worth, Texas has been postponed until a later, as-yet-unspecificed date.
— Las Vegas’ Punk Rock Bowling has been postponed until the fall.
— Lollapalooza has pushed back its South American festivals in Chile, Argentina, and Brasil to later in the year.
— Hop Jam, the annual music and beer put on by Hanson, will be postponed until 2021.
— SandJam, which was set to take place April 24th-26th in Panama City Beach, Florida, has been canceled.
— Australia’s Byron Bay Bluesfest has been canceled for 2020.
— Tomorrowland Winter, scheduled to take place in France from March 14th-21st, was canceled after the French government placed a ban on all indoor gatherings totaling more than 5,000 people.
— The California Roots Music & Arts Festival has been moved to October 9th-11th.
— The Days of Summer hip-hop cruise has canceled its third annual voyage. It plans to return in 2021.
— C2C: Country to Country Festival, which was to take place in the UK and Europe starting Friday, has been postponed.
Tours and Concerts
— LiveNation is halting all of its promoted tours, while Broadway is shuttering its doors until April 12th.
— Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 2020 induction ceremony has been postponed and will now take place on a future, as-yet-unspecificed date.
— Rage Against the Machine have postponed the first leg of their reunion tour.
— BTS, Green Day, New Order, Bob Dylan, and Slipknot have canceled scheduled tour dates in Asia. Additionally, Slipknot’s Knotfest event in Japan has been called off.
— Pearl Jam have postponed the spring leg of their upcoming North American tour. They also expressed concerns over the US government’s ability to manage the unfolding crisis.
— Billie Eilish has postponed the spring North American leg of her “Where Do We Go? World Tour”.
— Thom Yorke has postponed the spring leg of his North American tour.
— Foo Fighters have postponed their 25th anniversary “Van Tour” until later in the year.
— Elton John has postponed 19 dates of his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour”.
— Wilco, Deftones, Disclosure, and The Strokes have all postponed tour dates taking place in March and April.
— Justin Bieber has downsized several upcoming stadium shows to arenas, reportedly due to lagging tickets sales stemming from the coronavirus.
— The Rolling Stones have postponed their entire “No Filter Tour”, which was scheduled to kick off in May.
— Madonna has canceled the remainder of her “Madame X Tour” in Paris after the Office of the Police prohibited all events with audience attendance of over 1,000 people.
— Bikini Kill have postponed a portion of their reunion tour, specifically dates in the Pacific Northwest.
— Strugill Simpson has rescheduled several days, while canceling others.
— They Might Be Giants have postponed upcoming tour dates in New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.
— KISS are temporarily halting backstage meet-and-greets with fans. Additionally, a trio of shows scheduled in Tulsa, Biloxi, and Lafayette have been rescheduled for the fall.
— Santana has canceled the European leg of his “Miraculous 2020 World Tour”.
— The Who have postponed their UK tour, which was set to launch this week. “The shows will “definitely happen and it may be the last time we do a tour of this type, so keep those tickets, as the shows will be fantastic,” Roger Daltrey said in a statement.
— Cher has already rescheduled her ABBA-inspired “Here We Go Again Tour” for September and October.
— Céline Dion has postponed her North American tour dates scheduled for March and April. New dates will be announced shortly.
— Michael Bublé has postponed all tour dates taking place between March 17th and April 5th. Rescheduled dates will be announced shortly.
— Iggy Pop has rescheduled several upcoming tour tours in France.
— Jay Som has postponed her European tour due to U.S. travel restrictions placed on the continent.
— MGMT have cancelled their March 17th, 19th, 21st, and 23rd shows in Mexico as well as a March 26th concert in Houston.
— Mount Eerie has postponed its upcoming European tour, with plans to reschedule the dates for the fall.
— Alkaline Trio and Bad Religion have postponed their upcoming joint tour.
— Third Eye Blind have rescheduled their entire US tour, which will now take place over the summer.
— Bob Mould has postponed his solo electric shows scheduled between March 20th and 29th. “I was raised in the age of ‘the show must go on’—but protecting ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities is paramount as we navigate this unpredictable public health crisis,” Mould said in a statement. “Please follow the directions of local and national health authorities. Apologies for any inconvenience, thanks for understanding, and I hope to see you all in the near future.”
— Heavy metal and hard rock acts including Fleshgod Apocalypse, Russian Circles, Torche, and Sammy Hagar have canceled or postpone tour dates. So too have Tool, Devin Townsend, and Machine Head.
— Deafheaven, Alice Cooper, Killswitch Engage, Sepultura, Lamb of God, and Evanescence have also canceled or postponed planned tour dates.
— The Allman Betts Band has pulled the plug on tour dates scheduled between March 12th and 31st.
— Chris Stapleton has postponed his “All-American Road Show” tour dates in Austin, Arlington, Biloxi, and Birmingham. At the moment, the remaining dates on Stapleton’s tour, which is scheduled to resume on April 22nd in Toledo, have not been impacted.
— Brian Fallon has postponed all spring tour dates taking place between March 13th and April 5th. Rescheduled dates will be announced shortly.
— Dwight Yoakam has postponed tour dates in Albuquerque and El Paso.
— Waxahatchee has postponed her upcoming North American tour until later this year.
— Pussy Riot have postponed their North American tour.
— David Lee Roth, The Jonas Brothers, and Kelly Clarkson have postponed their upcoming Las Vegas residencies.
— Vanessa Carlton is rescheduling her “Love Is An Art Tour”.
— Universal Music head Lucian Grainge has tested positive for coronavirus.
— Music producer Andrew Wyatt has tested positive for coronavirus.
— San Francisco’s Chase Center has canceled or postponed upcoming concerts scheduled at the arena, including Tame Impala and Post Malone.
— All I.M.P. events taking place at Washington, D.C. venues including 9:30 Club, The Anthem, and Lincoln Theatre have been postponed until April 1st.
— In New York City, the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center, the New York Philharmonic, and Carnegie Hall have canceled all events through March 31st.
— Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry will suspend all performances involving live studio audiences until April 4th.
— Eurovision has been canceled for the first time in its 64 year history.
— The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is closing its doors until March 27th.
— The 2020 Billboard Music Awards have been postponed to a later, as-yet-unspecified date. The ceremony was originally set to take place on April 29th.
— Canada’s Juno Awards, which honor the best music in the country, has been canceled.
— The 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards has been postponed. Originally set to take place on April 5th, the ceremony will now occur in September.
— iHeart Radio Music Awards, originally scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on March 29th, has been postponed.
Films and Television
— Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have tested positive for coronavirus. The couple contracted the virus in Australia in pre-production for Baz Luhrmann’s new Elvis Presley film.
— Idris Elba has tested positive for the coronavirus and is currently in quarantine.
— Quantum of Solace actress Olga Kurylenko has tested positive for the coronavirus.
— Universal will release some of its newest titles, including The Hunt and The Invisible Man, digitally and on-demand beginning this Friday, March 20th.
— Birds of Prey will hit VOD beginning March 24th.
— Disney has pulled Mulan, The New Mutants, and Antlers from its release schedule.
— Marvel’s Black Widow will not see release on May 1st as originally planned. A new release date has not yet been set.
— Regal and AMC have announced they’re closing all their theaters for “six to 12 weeks.”
— All movie theaters in New York City and Los Angeles are closed indefinitely.
— The 2020 Cannes Film Festival has been postponed for only the second time in its history.
— The 2020 Tribeca Film Festival has been put on hold. “We have made the difficult decision to postpone the 19th Tribeca Film Festival (April 15th-26th) based on the announcement by Gov. Andrew Cuomo that events of 500 people or more are banned due to the spread of the novel coronavirus. We are committed to ensuring the health and safety of the public while also supporting our friends, filmmakers and storytellers who look to Tribeca as a platform to showcase their work to audiences. We will be back to you shortly with our plans,” organizers said in a statement.
— The release of the new James Bond movie, No Time to Die, has been delayed until November 2020. Many movie theaters across the country, especially in China and Italy, have been shuttered in hopes of containing the spread of the coronavirus.
— The release of A Quiet Place II has been delayed indefinitely.
— The latest installment in the Fast & Furious franchise, F9, has been moved back nearly a year. Originally set to hit theaters in May, the film will now see release on April 2nd, 2021.
— Paramount Productions has pulled the release of The Lovebirds and Blue Story.
— Production on Matt Reeves’ The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, has been shut down for two weeks.
— Production on Mission Impossible 7 in Italy has been shut down for the foreseeable future.
— Production on The Matrix 4 is on pause “until further notice.”
— Production on the four Avatar sequels has been delayed, though VFX work is still being conducted.
— Production on new seasons of The Morning Show and Riverdale have both been paused indefinitely.
— Disney has paused production on multiple live-action films, including The Little Mermaid, Home Alone, Peter Pan & Wendy, and Shrunk. “While there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on our productions, after considering the current environment and the best interests of our cast and crew, we have made the decision to pause production on some of our live-action films for a short time,” Disney said in a statement.
— Production on Marvel Studio’s Shang-Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings has been halted after director Destin Daniel Cretton went into self-isolation under the recommendation of a doctor.
— Production on Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series has been suspended for a minimum of two weeks. Currently, here are “no clear answers” to when production will resume.
— Netflix’s The Witcher has halted filming on season 2.
— Hulu has paused production on the fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale.
— Production on the Amazon original series Carnival Row has shut down so that Orlando Bloom can return home to the U.S.
— ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy has shut down production and postponed the remainder of season 16 until further notice.
— HBO Max’s Friends reunion special has been delayed.
— Netflix had shut down all scripted TV and film physical production and prep for two weeks in the U.S. and Canada, including Stranger Things 4.
— Warner Bros. Television Group is halting production on some of its 70-plus series and pilots currently filming or about to begin filming.
— Saturday Night Live is taking a three-episode hiatus.
— FX has halted production on several of its original series, including Atlanta and Fargo. As a result, the April 19th premiere date for Fargo has been postponed indefinitely.
— Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune will temporarily cease filming in front of a live studio audience.
— Late-night TV programs based in New York, including Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and The Daily Show, will also no longer film in front of a live studio audience.
— The theatrical release of Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway has been pushed back to August.
— Blumhouse has paused production on a new thriller called Vengeance directed by and starring B.J. Novak.
— Quibi has canceled a launch event scheduled for April 5th in Culver City, California.
— Production on Season 41 of Survivor has been delayed until May.
— Cinemacon, the Las Vegas convention which brings together movie theater owners from around the world, has been canceled.
— CBS and NBC are forgoing their live upfront presentation scheduled for May.
— Chicago’s Music Box Theatre will close until April 3rd.
— The overall economic impact on the worldwide film industry could exceed $20 billion.
Other Cultural Events
— Record Store Day 2020 has been postponed until June 20th.
— Disney is closing its California, Florida, and Paris theme parks and is suspending any departures for its cruise lines through the end of March. Universal Studio Hollywood and Orlando are also closing for the rest of March.
— E3, the annual video game convention held in Los Angeles, has been canceled.
— Cardi B says she’s delaying the release of her new music.
