Corey Taylor — who happens to grace the latest edition of the Consequence Cover Story — joins the latest episode of Kyle Meredith With… to discuss his sophomore solo album, CMF2.

The Slipknot and Stone Sour singer talks about the genre-defying new set, which sees him writing on mandolin for the first time and tapping into his acoustic side. In particular, there’s the track “Breath of Fresh Smoke,” which Taylor says he wrote “about 17 years ago” when he first discovered Ray LaMontagne. He says the folk rocker “is, to me, one of the greatest modern songwriters. He and Ani DiFranco really were the two people that inspired me to write acoustically, and to take it to the places that I’ve been able to take it to.”

He also shares his admiration for the courage and career foresight of artists like David Bowie and Prince, dissects Slipknot’s penchant for hooks, and shares where he continues to get his anger from. Taylor also lets fans know about his plans for the legendary magazine Famous Monsters, which he recently purchased, setting his sights on a semi-annual publication and movies under the banner.
