A Utah man is facing a murder charge after a 2-year-old boy was killed and his twin sister seriously injured, authorities say.

In addition to first-degree murder, Jonathan Allen Dunn is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and aggravated child abuse, court records indicate.

Dunn, who police say was previously convicted of child abuse in 2017 when he broke a child’s arm, was babysitting the twin children in Roy, Utah, when he allegedly began punching the boy and girl in the back and chest, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Police allege Dunn confessed to hitting the children “harder than he should’ve,” pinching them, throwing them on the bed repeatedly and pushing them into the door frame, according to the affidavit. Dunn also allegedly gave the siblings children’s Tylenol and other medicine, the affidavit claims.

Dunn also allegedly admitted to pinching the genitalia of both children and hitting them in the head with a hard foam mallet and with the butt of a Nerf gun, police say in the affidavit.

Dunn called 911 the morning of Dec. 21 after discovering the boy was not breathing and that the girl was seriously injured, according to police.

When police arrived they found the boy lying on the porch unresponsive and the girl sitting on the couch with bruises on her face, according to the affidavit. The boy was pronounced dead, while the girl was taken to the hospital with a brain bleed.

The boy was identified in a GoFundMe as Aleister.

“I am raising funds to help cover the cost of funeral services, medical bills, and so Aleister’s sisters can get the help that they are going to need to process this devastating loss,” wrote the organizer, Shaylee Lindsey.
