Wallen broke onto the scene in 2014 when he successfully auditioned for the popular singing competition The Voice. He was coached first by Usher and then Maroon 5 vocalist Adam Levine.
"It was a big first step—I guess that's the first time in my life where I realized that maybe I actually have a shot at this," Wallen told People in 2019. "I'm thankful that I didn't win because it gave me a chance to take a couple years after that show and really figure out who I was as an artist and get the right team around me.
