Who's Constance Wu? 'Fresh Off the Boat's' Emmy-Deserving Pimp, That's Who

With just 13 episodes under her belt, Constance Wu has quickly become one of the funniest women on TV right now. Talk about a breakout star!

If you didn’t catch the first season of ABC's Fresh Off the Boat, you missed out on Wu’s stellar performance as alpha mom Jessica Huang, who, along with her husband and three young sons, must assimilate in the sunny suburbs of Orlando, Florida, after moving from D.C.’s Chinatown. Jessica’s no-nonsense parenting, brash attitude, and unwavering reign over the family’s budget have provided an abundance of memorable quotes. Even if you didn’t have a mom like Jessica Huang, you most definitely grew up with someone who did.

As Emmy nominations are being decided, we thought we’d highlight Wu’s scene-stealing range — from her deadpan line deliveries and facial expressions to her amazing physical comedy and perfect timing. It’s hard to pick one favorite Jessica Huang moment, so here are two: her surprising prowess as a karaoke singer belting out “I Will Always Love You” (which, by the way, is NOT a duet), and teaching her eldest son, Eddie, about date rape.

While the Huang household gets major props for spot-on '90s references and relatable storylines (because the series is based on Eddie Huang’s memoir of the same name), it’s Wu’s Jessica who brings the charm to every episode, and that demands Emmy attention.
