Conor McGregor Arrested in Miami for Allegedly Smashing Fan's Phone and Running Away with It
Conor McGregor has been arrested in Miami Beach following an alleged altercation with a fan, PEOPLE confirms.
Early Monday morning, around 5 a.m., McGregor, 30, was exiting the Fontainebleau Miami Beach when the fan pulled out his cell phone to take a photo with the famed UFC fighter, according to police.
According to the arrest affidavit, that’s when McGregor allegedly “slapped the victim’s phone out of his hand, causing it to fall to the floor.”
The affidavit states that McGregor then allegedly “stomped on the victim’s phone several times, damaging it.”
“The defendant then picked up the victim’s phone and walked away with it, depriving him of it,” the arrest affidavit states.
According to the affidavit, the phone is valued at $1,000.
Later in the day, Miami Beach Police found McGregor arrested him and charged him with strong-arm robbery and criminal mischief, Miami Beach spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez told PEOPLE.
He was booked into a Miami-Dade jail Monday night, according to Miami Herald, who was first to report the news.
He has since been transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he is awaiting arraignment, Rodriguez said.
McGregor’s latest run-in with the law comes almost a year after he was arrested in New York City for attacking a packed UFC bus and injuring fighter Michael Chiesa. Chiesa suffered several cuts to the face.
McGregor was charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief as a result of the incident in which the Irish native threw a dolly through one of the bus’ windows at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, a New York City Police Department spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE.
