Concourse Media, the sales and distribution banner led by Matthew Shreder, is teaming with Goldfinch on its already-established genre label The Number 44.

Concourse will come aboard as sales partner for a five-picture slate, which is fully financed with production already completed on two films and three more slated for this year. Concourse is also helping develop and produce.

The auteur-driven genre production label is focused on horror, thriller and sci-fi projects and was co-founded by award-winning producer and director Ben Charles Edwards (“The Wheels of Heaven”) alongside Phil McKenzie (“Quant”) and Kirsty Bell (“A Bird Flew In”).

The first film to be launched for sales in the series, “I’ll Play Mother,” recently finished post-production and stars Susanne Wuest (“Goodnight Mummy”), Jo Martin (“Doctor Who,” “Back to Life”) and Shubham Saraf (“A Suitable Boy”). Brad Watson (“The Siege”) directs from a screenplay by Libby Adam, based on an original story by Charles Edwards.

A twisted psychological horror about the relentless and unending paranoia of parenthood, the film follows two children who are placed into the care system after the death of their birth mother. At this point, they realize there is something sinister at play.

The Number 44, a standalone production company under the Goldfinch umbrella, takes its name from the fictional character in Mark Twain’s “The Mysterious Stranger” and is dedicated to supporting original creators of modern genre stories that examine human behavior or pose a moral conundrum.

“It’s great to be partnering with Concourse and we are looking forward to working with them on presenting The Number 44 slate to distributors,” McKenzie said in a statement. “We’ve shown in 2023 that we can deliver a large volume of films to a high creative standard within set commercial boundaries. Through working with partners such as Concourse, we want to build on this business model and establish ourselves as a leading provider of genre content to the market.”

Shreder and Grant Mohrman will serve as executive producers for Concourse Media, which is handling worldwide sales across the slate.

“The Number 44 is a lineup of edgy, hair-raising films that will satisfy genre fans everywhere,” said Mohrman, head of acquisitions for Concourse. “We are doing a deep dive into selecting films that bring something fresh and exciting to the marketplace.”

Concourse’s latest film, “Chief of Station” starring Aaron Eckhart, was recently acquired by Vertical Entertainment and will release this May. They commence production next week on “Sovereign” starring Nick Offerman, Dennis Quaid and Jacob Tremblay.
