Concert series season to conclude with trumpet, organ duo

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – A celebration of America will cap off the Johnstown Concert Series season.

The Seipp/Sheets Trumpet & Organ Duo – trumpeter Chuck Seipp and organist Randall Sheets – will perform as part of the concert series at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 309 Lincoln St., downtown Johnstown.

Custom musical arrangements of beautiful, entertaining, humorous and patriotic selections enhance the exquisite blend of their instruments.

Coupled visually with specialized videos, Seipp and Sheets craft a unique and engaging concert experience, creating an extraordinary connection with their audiences.

Sheets is a ceremonial organist for Arlington National Cemetery. Seipp is a retired sergeant major from the U.S. Army Band.

They have performed more than 75 concerts during the last six seasons in 22 states at universities, churches and festivals.

The duo performed in last season’s concert series to rave reviews.

“They first performed in September 2022, and the concert was very well received,” said Bill Brice, a board member with the concert series.

“People asked if we could have them return, so they are coming back as requested by our audience.”

Heather Brice, a board member with the concert series, said the duo are fine musicians.

“We always look for musicians who are at the top of their craft and we try to get that high caliber of musicians, and these people certainly are that,” she said.

“In this case, they have this unique blend of music and video, so this is for all ages and something we think our audiences will like.”

The program will present “Salute to America” and feature an array of patriotic music.

Pieces include “Fanfare for the Common Man,” “This is My Country,” “Rhapsody in Blue,” “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “God Bless America” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”

The performance also will include a special recognition of veterans in the audience who will be acknowledged for their service.

“Who better to do that than the organist from Arlington National Cemetery and the trumpeter from the U.S. Army Band?” said Bill Brice.

Local trumpet player Scott Holbert, who is retired from the U.S. Army Field Band, will serve as the accompanist for the final two pieces.

“We hope people will realize what a great country we’re in, and we have the music to prove it,” Bill Brice said.

Heather Brice added that in July the duo will stop performing together.

“We’re really lucky to have them for our concert series,” she said. “We’re so glad that we managed to get them in before they break up.”

Following the concert, attendees will have the opportunity to meet with Seipp and Sheets.

Tickets are $15 each or two for $25 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students and can be bought in advance or at the door. A special $10 price will be available for veterans.
