Concert previews of Fireside Collective, Disturbed, The Lumineers, more [Seven in Seven]

Aug. 16—Welcome to Seven in Seven, where we look at shows coming to the region over the next week. As always, whether your musical tastes are rock 'n' roll, jazz, heavy metal, R&B, singer-songwriter or indie, there will always be something to check out.

Here are seven of the best on the docket for the week of Aug. 18:

Fireside Collective — Friday at Sellersville Theater 1894

Asheville, N.C., quintet Fireside Collective has been on a roll since emerging seven years ago from the fertile roots music scene of their hometown. It wasn't long before the progressive bluegrass group released its debut album, won the 2016 Band Contest at MerleFest, earned an International Bluegrass Music Association Momentum Band of the Year nomination and embarked on an ambitious touring schedule. It was the latter that earned an enthusiastic reception from traditional bluegrass to eclectic music festival audiences alike. Blending the traditional interplay of bluegrass instrumentation and harmonies with strong original material and exuberant energy, Fireside Collective draws on folk, blues, funk and a wide variety of additional and unexpected sounds to create a distinctive body of work that's all their own.

Dave Alvin & Jimmie Dale Gilmore with The Guilty Ones — Friday at World Café Live

Back in June, guitarist and singer-songwriter Dave Alvin kicked off his tour with The Guilty Ones, and now he's following it up with some dates joined by fellow roots music legend and friend of 30 years Jimmie Dale Gilmore. Alvin and Gilmore's lively shows feature songs from the duo's lauded first album, "Downey to Lubbock," with the set list also including classic original compositions from the pair's albums and new stories to share. There's also a new song, "Borderland," which pays tribute to the Rio Grande and was recorded in January of this year.

Blessthefall — Saturday at Brooklyn Bowl

One of the most respected frontrunners in the metalcore community, Blessthefall was formed in 2004 by a group of high school friends in Phoenix, Ariz., and, within three years, signed their first label deal, released a bestselling debut, "His Last Walk," and established a loyal fanbase. This year, in addition to an extensive tour, the group is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its best-selling fourth album, "Hollow Bodies," with a new vinyl reissue on Craft Recordings. Fusing metalcore with electronica, the 2013 album includes the singles "Déjà Vu" and "You Wear a Crown But You're No King," and features cameos by Lights, plus members of August Burns Red and Stick to Your Guns.

Disturbed — Monday at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion

Disturbed returns to town on its first tour since 2018 in support of its latest LP, "Divisive." The band emerged out of Chicago at the turn of the century with an infectious nu metal groove that put them at the front of the emerging genre, with sales of over 17 million-plus units, nearly 8 billion streams and headlining shows around the globe. Along the way, they notched five consecutive No. 1 debuts on the Billboard Top 200, occupying rarified air alongside Metallica, the only other hard rock group to accomplish the feat. Does that mean they are as talented as the most well-known heavy metal act of all time? Of course not. But it's a nice feather to have in their cap.

Shakti — Monday at the Keswick Theatre

Unknowingly one-upping Disturbed, fusion outfit Shakti is touring for the first time in 16 years. Born in the mid-1970s out of the deep artistic and spiritual connection bonding British guitarist John McLaughlin and Indian tabla player Zakir Hussain, Shakti's cross-cultural music dissolved boundaries with passion, grace and dexterity. The result was the awakening of subsequent generations of musicians to the possibilities of such hybrids. Alongside McLaughlin and Hussain, today's Shakti features vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan and percussionist Selvaganesh Vinayakram, who happens to be the son of original Shakti ghatam player T.H. "Vikku" Vinayakram.

The HamilTones — Tuesday at City Winery Main Stage

North Carolina natives the HamilTones started as background vocalists for Grammy-winning soul singer Anthony Hamilton. When their behind-the-scenes clips of quartet-styled cover songs were uploaded online, they caught fire. Since then, the trio has been featured on "The Breakfast Club" and "Steve Harvey Morning Show," sold out The Apollo and appeared on Grammy-nominated albums by Hamilton, PJ Morton, Johnathan McReynolds and Tori Kelly.

The Lumineers — Wednesday, Aug. 23, at TD Pavilion at The Mann

The two-time Grammy-nominated Lumineers are touring in support of their fourth album, last year's "Brightside." The album was Top 10 in both the U.S. and Canada and the title track reached the top spot on Billboard's Alternative National Airplay and Adult Alternative Airplay charts — the sixth time the alt-folk band has topped the latter chart in less than 10 years. Last year's tour saw more than 750,000 tickets sold across five continents, including two sold out stadium shows at Coors Field in Denver and Wrigley Field in Chicago. One of those tour dates was across the river in Camden, so consider this a victory lap of sorts.
