In observation of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Kehilat Sukkat Shalom and First Unitarian Community Church will co-host an evening of works including several by composers and writers who perished in or survived the Holocaust.

The concert, set for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27, will feature the Anahata Collaborative Ensemble performing vocal and instrumental works as well as poetry in memoriam of the millions of Jewish and other lives lost. According to a Dispatch story from 2022, about 200 Holocaust survivors live in Columbus.

Free tickets for the event are available at jewishcolumbus.org (search under the "Events Calendar" tab). Registered ticketholders will be informed of the location via email one week before the concert.

The program will honor acclaimed figures such as late Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel, who penned 57 books including "Night," based on his experiences as a Jewish prisoner in the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps.

The concert is sponsored by Jewish Columbus, the largest funder of Jewish programs in the city, raising $1 million in funding for security initiatives each year.

Jewish Columbus supports various community initiatives including an overnight camp, where youngsters connect to their identities and the larger Jewish community. In addition to traditional camp activities, participants celebrate Jewish culture through song, food, art and dance.

The organization, which has many community and global partners, also assists Jews in need from Columbus to countries such as Ukraine, for which it has raised more than $380,000.
