Conan's epic fail as Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's stunt double
Conan O’Brien visited Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson on the set of his new film, Rampage, where the late night host got the brilliant idea that he would be the actor’s perfect stunt double.
Conan must be looking at himself in some magical mirrors, because the host told Johnson that, physically, he was just like him. And watching the two go back and forth about whether or not that was true was highly entertaining. Conan eventually moved on, ready to attempt his first stunt.
With a prosthetic bald cap unsecured to the top of his head, Conan first tried being thrown over a table — hitting many glass bottles along the way. “I thought that it was supposed to be a launch, but this was more like a roll,” said Johnson, who thought Conan needed to do it again. He hesitantly obliged. Johnson still wasn’t satisfied, as he placed double the number of glass bottles, along with a giant beaker, on the table because he was “not feeling really any pain at all” from Conan’s performance. Once Conan had survived the first stunt, he was ready to move on to a bigger scene, which included the terrifying albino gorilla from the film. Well, kinda.
In reality, Conan had hired someone dressed in a white gorilla costume, which Johnson referred to as “a piece of s***.” Conan told Johnson, “I think with a little CGI this would look exactly like the albino ape in Rampage.” And when it came time for Conan do his thing, well, let’s just say the albino-rilla wasn’t the only one enjoying it.
Conan airs weeknights at 11 on TBS.
