‘Conan’ Last Guest Will Be Jack Black, As Audiences Return For TBS Show’s Final Two Weeks

Jack Black has been booked to serve as Conan O’Brien’s farewell guest in late night — at least for now. As his TBS show “Conan” ends its run with an hour-long finale on June 24, O’Brien isn’t expected to launch another late night show anytime soon, but instead is focusing on a new series for HBO Max (details to be announced later) and also growing his production company, including its rapidly expanding podcast offerings.
As Black joins O’Brien for the finale, the show will also air an hour earlier than usual, at 10 p.m. ET that evening. Black caps off the final two weeks of guests that include Martin Short, Bill Hader, Mila Kunis, Dana Carvey, JB Smoove and Patton Oswalt.

In time for the final two weeks of shows, “Conan” will also welcome back a live studio audience for the first time in over a year, to help him end his run. The Largo at the Coronet Theater, where “Conan” moved to (exiting its previous stage on the Warner Bros. lot) last year, will begin to invite fans into the venue next week. O’Brien has already been inviting celebrity guests to join him in-person.
“Following all LA County Covid Guidelines, attendees will need to be fully vaccinated on the day of attendance and show proof of vaccination,” the show said. “At this time, masks will be required. “Conan” first launched in November 2010 as an hour-long show; in 2019, it retooled into a 30 minute series. Last year, it became the first talk show during the pandemic to return to a studio after producing at-home episodes — albeit it at its new Largo at the Coronet home.
Starting with NBC’s “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” in September 1993, O’Brien has been in late night for nearly 28 years. The final episodes of “Conan” will feature “special surprise guests as well as a look back at memorable moments of this iteration of O’Brien’s historic late-night career,” the network said.
This is the third major farewell event of O’Brien’s career. In 2009, Andy Richter, Will Ferrell (as George W. Bush) and the White Stripes helped O’Brien end “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” And in 2010, his unexpected “Tonight Show” finale included Tom Hanks, Will Ferrell and musical guest Neil Young.
