  • Siggi's is giving away $10,000 to people who can live without their smartphone for one month

  • The company says the average person spends 5.4 hours on their phone each day

  • The contest, which requires an essay, is open until Jan. 31 to anyone 18 and older

A company is serving up a tempting opportunity to anyone who might want to lock away their smartphone for a month.

Organizers behind the contest —  sponsored by Siggi’s Dairy (also known as siggi’s) — have launched a “digital detox” challenge, which comes with a sweet prize: $10,000.

“We believe in the power of living a simpler life with fewer distractions,” the company said in a statement. “One of the biggest distractions in our lives today is our phone. In fact, the average person spends 5.4 hours on their phones each day.”

The company said that 10 grand prize winners will receive the money, as well as a smartphone lockbox to ditch their phones, a replacement “flip” phone, a one-month prepaid sim card, and three months worth of yogurt.

The contest is open from now until Jan. 31.

Prospective detoxers (anyone 18 and older) are required to write a 100-500 word essay that will explain why they need a digital detox, and describe how the detox would impact their life in a positive way and align with siggi’s “brand philosophy,” according to the company.

"Our brand ethos is all about stripping away the unnecessary, and just like fewer ingredients in yogurt, we believe fewer digital distractions can make for a more satisfying life,” Kristina Drociak, siggi’s director of PR and digital strategy, told Fox Business.

On or around Feb. 15, winners will be announced, and then the challenge — done on the honor system, a company representative told PEOPLE — will truly begin.
