Community Music Club to present afternoon of music Sunday

Sep. 23—The Community Music Club will present a number of talented local musicians in recital on Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Lenoir.

The 2 p.m. event includes featured performer Stephanie Alm, a virtuoso handbell ringer. Other gifted performers are Vince Crist and Joseph Franklin, organists, and Amauris Pena and Kendal Alley Clark, vocalists.

Alm started playing handbells at the age of 12 under the direction of Patsy Riddle. Since that time, she has performed with several prestigious handbell groups and continues to play with the Chancel Ringers at First United Methodist Church.

She performed with The Raleigh Ringers touring across the eastern United States and producing a DVD, "One Winter Evening at Memandi," which was syndicated to PBS nationwide for 10 years.

She has performed with Virtuoso, a 30-member highly advanced bell choir from across the United States; Distinctly Bronze East, an auditioned group through Handbell Musicians of America; Charlotte Bronze Handbell Ensemble; and Hickory Rings! Handbell Ensemble.

She took up solo ringing during 2020 when COVID shut down many choirs. She has performed solo pieces at FUMC Lenoir and with Hickory Rings!

Her solo concert Sunday will feature several bell techniques, including remarkable traveling four in hand, six 6 in hand, bell tree and others.
