Sep. 7—Superior: The Barker's Island Farmers Market runs from 8:45 a.m. to noon near the SS Meteor.

Superior: A jazz concert in support of Harbor House Crisis Shelters, "Jazzin' with Faith," will kick off at 7 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 1531 Hughitt Ave. The concert features music by World Beat Connection ministers through music. Doors open at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be available. Free admission; donations accepted.

Gordon: The Gordon Fire Tower will host an open climbing day from 1-4 p.m. at the fire tower, 9469 E. Bass Lake Road. Members of the public are invited to climb 100 feet up to the cab of the historic tower and explore the grounds of the site, which is operated by the nonprofit Friends of the Bird Sanctuary. Lake Nebagamon: Imogene McGrath Memorial Library hosts Storytime at 10:30 a.m. for children and their caregivers.

Superior: Superior Public Library partners with the Douglas County ADRC and Senior Connections to host Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a workshop that meets every Monday from Sept. 11 to Oct. 16 at the library. Caregivers will learn tools to help with time management, goal setting, problem solving and communicating in difficult situations, as well as how to alleviate feelings of stress, guilt and burnout. Superior: Superior Public Library partners with the Douglas County ADRC to host a six-week program called Boost Your Brain and Memory. The program offers a holistic approach to improving brain health in older adults. Bring an item from Northwest Wisconsin Community Services Agency food shelf's wish list — cereal, fruit, juice or soups — for an entry into the prize raffle.

Superior: Fairlawn Mansion hosts an ice cream social from 5-7:30 p.m. at 906 E. Second St. Enjoy music from the Superior High School choir, live magic shows and balloon animals with The Amazing Charles and a concert by Magic Bus. There will be food, custard, free tours of Fairlawn, free popcorn, kids' games, a nonprofit and art fair, musical cakes and a car show.

Solon Springs: An ice cream social will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church from 5-7 p.m. This is a fundraising event with proceeds going to the church's Faith Formation which supports Vacation Bible School, Wednesday School and Community Meals; books and arts and crafts supplies; community campfires, community service projects, and more. Everyone is welcome and invited to join us and get to know your neighbors.

Superior: Superior Area Retired Educators' Association monthly meetings have moved from the third Tuesday of the month to the second Thursday of the month. Our first meeting will be Sept. 14 at noon at Vintage Italian Pizza. The price of luncheons this year will be $16, and still includes an entree, beverage, and tip for the wait-staff. Hostesses for September are Jane Wester, Paulette White, Roberta Moselle and Kathy Kadlecek. Retired public school employees and anyone interested in promoting public education is invited to attend. Our yearly dues in the amount of $12 will be collected at the September meeting. Superior: Learn to catch, harvest and cook Wisconsin fish through a free, three-session Fishing for Dinner workshop that will take place from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Superior Estuarium, 3 Marina Dr. Participants must have a Wisconsin fishing license to fully participate. The class is geared for adults without much fishing experience who are in a position to encourage other community members to fish. Solon Springs: Wednesday School and Community Meals will resume their fall/winter activities at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. This includes fellowship, fun, arts and crafts, Bible study, and community service projects for all ages. Pre-K through 4th grade students meet at 4 p.m. A community meal, which is open to all children and adults, is served at 5 p.m. And the middle/high school students youth group meets 5-7 p.m. The goal of this program is to connect with others and build a sense of community. All are welcome.

Lake Nebagamon: Trinity Lutheran Church, 11416 E. 1st N, hosts a Harvest Dinner from 4-7 p.m. The meal will include a roast beef dinner with homemade mashed potatoes and gravy, rutabaga, carrots, garden vegetables, rolls, pickles, dessert and coffee or milk. Gluten free meals are available. The cost is $15 for adults, $7 for children ages 6-12 and children age 5 and under are free. Take out dinners are available. There will also be a silent auction for quilts.

Superior: Superior Public Library will host a celebration at 6 p.m. for author Mary Anne Arendt in celebration of her first book, "Ratting On the Fish," a novel about a Finnish family experiencing hard times in Finland who immigrate to northern Minnesota in 1895 in search of better opportunities. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and the Friends of the Library will provide refreshments.

Superior: Marie Mattson, a Certified Professional Genealogist®, will offer a free class at Superior Public Library at 10:30 a.m. This is the first of four sessions, which will cover FamilySearch, the U.S. Census, DNA and more. Each session will run for approximately 1 1/2 hours. No registration is required.

Solon Springs: The 14th annual Food Shelf Benefit and Fall Equinox Festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. along Main Street in Solon Springs, rain or shine. The event will showcase local crafters, artists and creative vendors. Visitors will find food, games, music and more, including yoga from 9-10 a.m., a coffee house from 7-10 a.m. and a scavenger hunt from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A silent auction with community partner Solon Springs Forward will also take place. Donations are being accepted at The Little Gift House.
