Sep. 14—Superior: Friends of Superior Public Library will host their annual book sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the library. The event will offer thousands of gently-used items including bestsellers, biographies, cookbooks, tons of children's books, tons of DVDs, and much more. You can name your own price on items in the big meeting room and find individually-priced treasures next door in the "best" room. Every dollar you spend supports the library all year long. Superior: Reclaim Recovery, a recovery-pathway neutral support group, meets from 5:30-7 p.m. at 2911 Tower Ave., Suite 9 the first and third Saturday of each month. Join us twice monthly for a fun-filled, laid back, non Faith based meeting.

Superior: Superior Public Library hosts its Lego Club for kids from 4-6 p.m.

Solon Springs: Joan Salmen Memorial Library hosts KidCrafts from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Children will make scarecrow crafts. All supplies are provided and no registration is required.

Superior: Superior Public Library hosts Storytime at 10:30 a.m. Children and their caregivers can listen to stories, do crafts, sing songs and more at the library. No registration is required.

Superior: The Superior Downtown Farmers Market runs from 10:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1215 Banks Ave.

Solon Springs: Wednesday School and Community Meals will resume their fall/winter activities at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. This includes fellowship, fun, arts and crafts, Bible study, and community service projects for all ages. Pre-K through 4th grade students meet at 4 p.m. A community meal, which is open to all children and adults, is served at 5 p.m. And the middle/high school students youth group meets 5-7 p.m. The goal of this program is to connect with others and build a sense of community. All are welcome.

Lake Nebagamon: Trinity Lutheran Church, 11416 E. 1st N, hosts a Harvest Dinner from 4-7 p.m. The meal will include a roast beef dinner with homemade mashed potatoes and gravy, rutabaga, carrots, garden vegetables, rolls, pickles, dessert and coffee or milk. Gluten free meals are available. The cost is $15 for adults, $7 for children ages 6-12 and children age 5 and under are free. Take out dinners are available. There will also be a silent auction for quilts.

Superior: The secretary of the Board of the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin will give a presentation via Zoom, "How did we end up as one of the most gerrymandered states in the country and is there hope on the horizon?" at 4:45 p.m. in Swenson Hall room 1058 at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The free presentation will be followed by the monthly meeting of a group working to re-establish a local League of Women Voters chapter. Those unable to attend in person can join via Zoom link:

Superior: Superior Public Library will host a celebration at 6 p.m. for author Mary Anne Arendt in celebration of her first book, "Ratting On the Fish," a novel about a Finnish family experiencing hard times in Finland who immigrate to northern Minnesota in 1895 in search of better opportunities. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and the Friends of the Library will provide refreshments.

Superior: Marie Mattson, a Certified Professional Genealogist®, will offer a free class at Superior Public Library at 10:30 a.m. This is the first of four sessions, which will cover FamilySearch, the U.S. Census, DNA and more. Each session will run for approximately 1 1/2 hours. No registration is required.

Solon Springs: The 14th annual Food Shelf Benefit and Fall Equinox Festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. along Main Street in Solon Springs, rain or shine. The event will showcase local crafters, artists and creative vendors. Visitors will find food, games, music and more, including yoga from 9-10 a.m., a coffee house from 7-10 a.m. and a scavenger hunt from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A silent auction with community partner Solon Springs Forward will also take place. Donations are being accepted at The Little Gift House.

Solon Springs: Celebrate North Country Trails Day and National Public Lands Day with a canoe paddle on Upper St. Croix Lake. Participants will meet at 10 a.m. at Palmer's Landing, four miles northeast of Solon Springs on County Highway A. A potluck lunch will follow, then enjoy a hike across the Historic Brule-St. Croix Portage Trail. Gordon: The Gordon Fire Tower will host an open climbing day from 1-4 p.m. at the fire tower, 9469 E. Bass Lake Road. Members of the public are invited to climb 100 feet up to the cab of the historic tower and explore the grounds of the site, which is operated by the nonprofit Friends of the Bird Sanctuary. Superior: Superior Public Library hosts a free screening of the movie "Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" at 6 p.m. Based on the popular roleplaying game, The film follows a band of thieves on the hunt for a valuable relic. Under the leadership of a talented thief named Edgin, the band goes on adventures to collect bounties across the land. When they target a lost artifact, the band messes with the wrong people and must play the game right to win it all. The movie is rated PG-13. Closed captions will be enabled.

Superior: Superior Public Library hosts the Twin Ports Perception project at 6 p.m. The project invites six award-winning authors who call the Twin Ports home to participate in a panel discussion about how they portray Duluth and Superior in their work. Featured authors include Anthony Bukoski, Carol Dunbar, Linda LeGarde Grover, Jayson Iwen, Sheila Packa and Barton Sutter. In advance of the program, booklets of writing from the participating authors will be available to pick up at Superior Public Library in early September.

Superior: Superior Public Library and the Douglas County ADRC partner to host Memory Cafes at the library from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Memory Cafes offer individuals with memory loss and their caregiver an opportunity for connection and conversation. Superior: UWS hosts a free screening of the film "Steward Udall: The Politics of Beauty" presented by filmmaker John de Graaf at Erlenbach Lecture Hall. The film tells the story of Secretary Udall as an advocate of social and environmental justice, international cooperation, the arts and the protection of shared environment and natural beauty. Following the 78-minute film, de Graaf, a recipient of UW-Superior's Outstanding Alumni Award, will provide commentary and answer questions. Erlenbach Lecture Hall is located in Swenson Hall at 1610 Weeks Ave.
