Community Calendar: Contemporary musical, boost your brain

Apr. 11—Superior: The University of Wisconsin-Superior Theatre Department performs a contemporary musical, "Ride the Cyclone" at 7:30 p.m. in Manion Theater in Holden Fine and Applied Arts, 1805 Catlin Ave. Directed by Sean Naughton, the musical is a joint production of the communicating arts and music departments and offers an up-tempo, off-beat contemporary rock and pop musical. Tickets are $15 for adults; $10 for seniors and students; and $5 for UWS students with a valid ID.

Superior: Kids can watch the movie "Migration" at 10:30 a.m. at the Superior Public Library.

Superior: The University of Wisconsin-Superior hosts a Yellowjacket Family Fun Day in the Lydia Thering Fieldhouse at the Marcovich Wellness Center. The free event will run from 9 a.m. to noon and will feature members of the UWS men's hockey and men's basketball teams. Children will be able to play floor hockey, basketball, soccer, tennis, volleyball and compete in races. Batting cages will be available, as well as yard games and crafts. Attendees will receive an autograph card that will include a coupon for a free scoop of custard from Culver's in Superior and a free youth ticket to a future Yellowjacket home game.

Superior: Harbor City Roller Derby holds its 13th season opener against the North Star Roller Derby of Minneapolis at 6 p.m. at Wessman Arena. Tickets are $15 for adults; children 12 and younger are free with a paid adult admission. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. For information, visit

Superior: Boost Your Brain, a six-week program that offers a holistic approach to improving brain health in older adults meets on Mondays from April 15 through May 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Superior Public Library, 1530 Tower Ave. Participants will learn new habits to maintain cognitive health while also practicing new skills for better memory performance.
