Common wants to become a Spider-Man in the next Spider-Verse film. On Monday (Jan. 22), the Chicago native visited NBC’s Today With Hoda & Jenna to promote his new book, And Then We Rise: A Guide to Loving and Taking Care of Self. While there, Com Sense decided to shoot his shot at Sony Pictures and Marvel’s Spider-Verse team.

The emcee shared a post on Instagram showing off his fitness as he hit a couple of Spider-Man push-ups. “Tell ’em to put me in the Spider-Verse,the multi-hyphenate typed. “How many Spider-Man Push Ups you got?” He also included a couple of pictures showing some behind-the-scenes photos of his visit. Elsewhere during his talk show appearance, Common chatted about his self-help book. He detailed how the late great Maya Angelou inspired his writings.

“Dr. Maya Angelou has been a heavy influence on me, one of my greatest inspirations. And her poem, Still I Rise, always affected me,” he said.

“So, when I was thinking of a title for this book, I was thinking about self-care and self-love being a community thing, too… When you take care of yourself and reach your highest level, you’re actually elevating your community, family, and the world just by being in your own power, your own light, and your own joy. I looked at it like more of a movement and not just being only for me.”

As for Spider-Verse, Sony and Marvel’s critically acclaimed film received an Oscar nod. On Tuesday (Jan. 23), Across the Spider-Verse was listed as a nominee in the Best Animated Feature category at the 2024 Oscars. During the award show, Spider-Verse will face off against Netflix’s Nimona, Disney/Pixar’s Elemental, Studio Ghibli’s The Boy and the Heron, and Robot Dreams.

The 96th Oscars will air on Sunday (March 10) on ABC at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
