Common Calls Relationship With Jennifer Hudson “A Happy Place” On Her Talk Show
Common has a way with words as he recently described his relationship with a certain EGOT winner as “a happy place.”
While visiting The Jennifer Hudson Show recently, the prolific MC didn’t name exactly who he’s dating, but made it obvious when he used the show’s catchy theme song to define his romance, and also characterized the host.
“I’m in a relationship that is with one of the most beautiful people I’ve met in life,” he said while beaming. “She’s smart, she loves God, she has something real down-to-earth about her. She’s talented. I set my standard kind of high because she had to have a EGOT, she had to win an Oscar on her first movie … she had to get her own talk show.”
Trying her hardest to remain coy, Hudson responded about her love life with, “I’m dating this brother, and I am very happy,” to which Common then added, “This relationship is a happy place for me.” He went on, “It’s like for me, it’s one of those things where I found where— seeing her happy actually makes me really happy.”
As the audience cheered and even yelled out, “She’s the one!” Common continued, “I’m very grateful. I thank God each and every day and I’m just letting God guide this relationship.”
Later in the episode, the two Chicagoans reminisced about attending a Bulls game together where they were caught court-side by the Jumbotron. Before exiting the show, Common also made sure to give his not-so-secret beau a bouquet of flowers and a new pair of kicks.

Common, né Lonnie Rashid Lynn, and Hudson were first rumored to be dating in February 2023 when they were spotted having dinner at Nobu in Malibu. Additionally, the two were also seen in London as they traveled together to attend the Tony-winning musical A Strange Loop.
After the play, the pair also took a photo with the entire cast onstage, to which a source told Daily Mail, “They arrived to the show individually to avoid any commotion but away from prying eyes, they were very much in each other’s company.”
Although neither star has publicly said that they are, indeed, an item, both have said great things about each other.
“I’ve always been inspired by her,” he said on the Today in July 2023. “She’s one of the most beautiful people I ever met on the planet. Incredible heart, and she’s just dope, man. Seeing her evolve from an actress and singing, she’s doing so many things and now her talk show, she’s amazing, she’s inspiring.”
“I’m grateful to know her.”
