Coming 2 America's Tracy Morgan talks about personal inspiration for his role
Coming 2 America star Tracy Morgan has revealed that he had some personal inspiration for his role in the long-awaited comedy sequel.
Morgan plays Reem who is the uncle of Lavelle (Jermaine Fowler), Akeem's (Eddie Murphy) previously-unknown son who still lives in America, despite his father becoming the King of Zamunda.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Morgan explained that while he had "some input" into his character, he didn't need to do much as the "writing was so good". Instead, he focused on finding the character of Reem and he found the inspiration in his own family.
"I looked in the mirror and I felt Uncle Reem was in there. He derives from my uncle, my real uncle named Fatty Love. I loved Fatty Love because he loved me, he taught me a lot, he's my guardian," he noted.

"I did the same thing to my nephew in the movie. The lessons my real-life uncle taught me, I taught my nephew [in the movie]. [Reem] wasn't perfect, he taught him how to hustle, but he also taught him don't forget where you come from."
Morgan is one of an all-star collection of newcomers in Coming 2 America which also stars Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, KiKi Layne, Bella Murphy, Rotimi, Nomzamo Mbatha and Teyana Taylor.
They join returning cast members from Coming to America, including Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, John Amos and Louie Anderson who all reprise their roles from the 1988 comedy classic.
The sequel sees the newly-crowned King Akeem and his trusted confidante Semmi as they embark on an adventure that takes them back to where it all began – Queens, New York – when Akeem discovers that he has a son.
Digital Spy also spoke to Wesley Snipes who explained why he doesn't view his character, General Izzi, as a comedic role.
Coming 2 America will be released on Prime Video on March 5, while Coming to America is available to watch now on Prime Video.
