Comic Preview: Robotech: Rick Hunter #1
Ace pilot Rick Hunter returns to action in a new Robotech comic book series, Robotech: Rick Hunter #1, that picks up where the classic cartoon left off.
What is Robotech?
First running in 1985, Robotech created an original series by adapting scenes from three older anime. Set in the not-too-distant future, the show revolved around a series of intergalactic wars. These were triggered by humanity’s discovery of advanced technology after an alien fortress, SDF-1, crashed on Earth.
The First Robotech War ended with the fortress destroyed and a newfound peace between Earth and their former enemies, the Zentraedi. That peace is fragile, however, with Zentraedi terrorists trying to start a new war. There are also malcontents in Earth’s military just as eager to exterminate all aliens.
This interferes with Rick Hunter’s new mission to explore the universe. It will fall to Rick, his friend Vince Grant, and the pilots under their command to face a new threat to Earth’s order.
Who Is The Creative Team?
Titan Comics has assembled an all-star team to continue the Robotech saga, with scripts by Brandon Easton. An Eisner Awards nominated author and screenwriter, Easton has previously worked on Agent Carter and two Transformers animated series. Easton also authored a 2015 biographical comic of Andre The Giant called Closer To Heaven.
The artwork for Robotech: Rick Hunter is provided by Simone Ragazzoni. She is best known for work on various Power Rangers comics for Boom! Studios, including Power Rangers Universe and Power Rangers: Drakkon New Dawn.
