Comic-Con gets videogame treatment in 'Comic ConQuest'

Having already been featured in television, books, and film, it was only a matter of time before Comic-Con culture got the videogame treatment. Inspired by San Diego’s annual gathering of sci-fi-, fantasy-, and superhero-loving geeks, Comic ConQuest is a tactical role-playing game adventure set within a sprawling comic book and science fiction convention. Much like the crowded show floor at SDCC, Comic ConQuest is filled with fans dressed as their favorite fictional characters; unlike ComicCon’s cos-players, however, the game’s costumed attendees actually possess the powers of those they’re pretending to be.

While you’d have a better chance uncovering Batman’s secret identity than you would Comic ConQuest’s gameplay details, we do know that players — both solo and in multiplayer groups — will battle baddies on the expo floor, form guilds, and of course search for cool swag. Also upping the free-to-play title’s geek street cred is executive producer Jeff Matsuda, fan-favorite comic book artist and producer of The Batman animated series.

Players won’t be able to don their capes, cowls, and codpieces until the game arrives on the web, tablets, and mobile devices this fall, but these exclusive concepts offer a nice peek of its fan-pleasing potential.
