Comedy in Ocean City, hip-hop and even a 70s hitmaker on eclectic beaches slate

While things are a little sparse on the beach entertainment scene at the moment, there are still interesting events taking place if you know where to look. And as is the trend recently, some of these shows have even sold out in advance.

Comedy and murder mystery combo a hot Ocean View ticket

In Ocean View, tickets are sold out for the ’80s Rewind: Comedy Murder Mystery event at the Dickens Parlour Theatre on Friday, Jan. 19.

However, tickets are still available for a pair of magic shows taking place the following weekend in conjunction with the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce’s seventh annual Fire & Ice Festival. Magician Will Ferm will perform at the theater at 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27 ($38 for adults, $30 for children).

Hip-hop in spotlight with rap, deejay show at Listening Booth

Elsewhere in coastal Sussex County, The Listening Booth has a busy concert calendar, two dates of which will be multi-artist showcases of original music. The concert venue in the Tanger Outlets Surfside shopping center on southbound Route 1 at Midway will spotlight rappers and deejays during a hip-hop event at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20.

The triple shot of all-local talent includes sets by Trevaile, Jeef and Cesar “See The Real” Flores ($15 for those under 16, $30 for ages 17 and up).

Looking ahead to the following weekend at The Listening Booth, tickets are on sale for another triple-bill of locals, this one focusing on folk, pop and indie-rock. The 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, bill of singer-songwriters will feature Callum Toner, Jermiah Coyne and Daphne Eckman ($35).

Similarly, the nearby Room at Cedar Grove is continuing to pack in the crowds with its dinner-concert format. Located west of Midway, it will host a sold-out duo show by singer-guitarists Paul Cullen (who is the owner of the business) and Robbie LaBlanc on Friday, Jan. 19.

The Room at Cedar Grove has placed tickets on sale — with just a smattering remaining — for a 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, concert by Elliot Lurie ($75 includes dinner). As a member of the pop-rock act Looking Glass, Lurie wrote and sang lead vocals on the enduring classic “Brandy (You’re A Fine Girl”).

Laugh it up big comedy shows in Ocean City

In Ocean City, tickets are sold out for the Friday, Jan. 19, edition of the Fishy Features Comedy Show at Tailchasers Restaurant & Dock Bar.

This month’s show features comedians Daniel MacFarland Jr., Chica Flora and Stevie Jay. The aforementioned Stevie Jay has another comedy event on the horizon, for which admission will be free. On Friday, Feb. 2, he will host a standup open-mic night at Tequila Frogs, also in Ocean City. Sign-ups will begin at 8 p.m., with the laughs commencing at 8:15 p.m.
