‘The Comedy Jam’ Ordered To Series At Comedy Central

Comedy Central’s Comedy Jam Special that aired in August is transitioning to a weekly series. The network has ordered eight episodes of The Comedy Jam based on the special for premiere in 2017.

Born from one of the hottest live shows in Los Angeles created by Josh Adam Meyers, The Comedy Jam is the intersection of comedy genius and rock & roll dreams. Each episode will feature stand-up comedians performing in front of a live audience where they share memorable moments from their lives that are linked with an iconic hit song. After the telling of each story, the comedians live out their rock star fantasy, performing the song while backed by The Comedy Jam Band.

“We have been working under the false impression that what comedians want most is to have television and digital platforms to further their comedy careers,” said Kent Alterman, President, Comedy Central. “It turns out they really just want to be rock stars.”

The comedy and music special that premiered in August featured Adam Devine reliving the night he lost his virginity to “All The Small Things” after taking his high school sweetheart to a Blink-182 concert; Jim Jefferies debuting an impression of Liam Gallagher performing “Wonderwall” by Oasis; Natasha Leggero discussing her familial connection to Rockford, IL, capping it off by belting out Cheap Trick’s “Surrender,” accompanied by rock legend Rick Nielsen. Jay Pharoah also revealed a vocally astounding version of Jack Ü and Justin Bieber’s “Where Are Ü Now”; Pete Davidson performed a raucous rendition of “Gangsta’s Paradise,” featuring a surprise appearance by Coolio; and all the performers capped off the night by returning to the stage to sing “We Are The Champions.”

The Comedy Jam is produced by Ugly Brother Studios and Tenth Planet and executive produced by Josh Adam Meyers, Mike and Tim Duffy and Joel Gallen, who will also direct.
