Comedy Central Renews ‘This Is Not Happening’ for Season 4

Comedy Central has renewed its midnight standup showcase “This Is Not Happening” for a fourth season.

The pickup comes the same day that “Happening” bows its third season, which runs 10 episodes. The show features comedians telling long-form tales of humiliation, degradation and supreme embarrassment in front of a crowd at Cheetahs nightclub in Hollywood.

Comedian Ari Shaffir serves as the show’s emcee and exec produces with Eric Abrams, Sam Saifer and Jeff Tomsic. Tomsic is the director.

Shaffir said he’s eager to build on the momentum the show is building as a favorite among comics.

“This season was awesome,” said Shaffir. “We got this amazing mix of legends like (Doug) Stanhope and (Brian) Regan, new comics that I love being able to introduce to the public, and returning favorites like (Joey) Diaz, (Ali) Siddiq and (Bert) Kreischer. Nothing I ever do will be as great as Season 19 of ‘South Park,’ but this is something I’m really proud of. And I can’t wait to start finding new comics with crazy stories for season four.”

Others on deck for “Happening’s” third season include Louie Anderson, Tom Papa, Maria Bamford, Russell Peters, Greg Behrendt, Rory Scovel and Nick Thune.

The fourth season pickup is also for 10 episodes, to debut next year.

“Happening” began as a digital series on CC.com. The show continues to produce exclusive material for Comedy Central’s digital platform.
