Comedy Central Considers Rotating ‘The Daily Show’ Hosts With Trevor Noah on Way Out (Report)

Faced with Trevor Noah’s imminent departure from “The Daily Show,” Comedy Central is reportedly considering a rotation of hosts to fill his seat.

Noah’s last show will be Dec. 8, and no successor has been named yet. His on-air exit announcement on Sept. 29 seemingly caught the cable channel by surprise as he had recently re-upped his contract for another year.

Noah cited being able to tour and travel again as some of his main reasons for leaving. With the ratings down and a new permanent host looking at a five-nights-a-week commitment, alternating between “The Daily Show” correspondents is a natural solution.

Variety reports that Comedy Central plans to relaunch a “reinvention” of the show beginning on Jan. 17, with sources naming contributors Roy Wood Jr. or Jordan Klepper as the most likely replacements. Other featured performers, Desi Lydic and Ronny Chieng, could also be tapped.

The cabler declined to comment to TheWrap, but in a previously released statement, it said: “In time, we will turn to the next chapter of ‘The Daily Show,’ and all of our incredible correspondents will be at the top of that list. Until then, we are focused on celebrating Trevor and thanking him for his many contributions.”

It’s not clear if Comedy Central is looking for a new permanent host or plans to stick with the reported rotating host format.
