By 2025, the 400 stores in the Kum & Go stable of convenience stores and gas stations will change to the Maverick name after the Utah-based gas station purchased the Des Moines-based company last year. Now comedian and late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert has thoughts on what to call Kum & Go instead.

Colbert suggested the convenience store chain Kum & Go should change its name to “Kum & then maybe stay the night.

“And the next morning you get breakfast and you find the conversation comes easily, not like with all the others, and you realize how much you have in common,” Colbert continued, stating his suggestion was "less dirty."

“You both put peanut butter on your pancakes and you both think George was the best Beatle and before you know it, its Christmas 2062 and you're surrounded by children and grandchildren thinking, ‘Man, I’m so lucky to have all this love in my life,'" he said. "'I’m glad all those years ago I didn’t just Kum & Go.’

“Although, admittedly, that is a lot to fit on a sign,” the talk show host added.

Kum & Go will be rebranded into Maveriks next year, according to marketing industry analyst Mitch Morrison’s article on CSP, a trade news website on the convenience store industry. In the CSP piece, Morrison cited one anonymous source who was concerned about “the inadvertent double entendre” of Kum & Go’s name.

Colbert had no problem playing with the “double entendre” on an episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” that aired on Jan. 18, which featured rapper Common and comedian and actor Steven Wright.

“Oh, so that’s it, Kum & Go?” Colbert said, acting like an aggrieved lover as the audience laughed. “You’ve had your fun and now you’re just going to leave? I’ve never felt so used.”
