Comedian Kevin Barnett's cause of death revealed: Report

No cause was given when comedian Kevin Barnett, a co-creator and writer on Fox’s show Rel died suddenly at 32 earlier this week, days after posting a photo from a vacation in Mexico.

On Thursday, E! News reported that there was an update following the receipt of his body at 5:50 a.m. Jan. 22 from Tijuana and an autopsy.

The cause was “Non Traumatic Hemorrhage, caused by pancreatitis,” the chief of the Forensic Medical Service said in a statement. “At the moment his body is still in facilities of the Forensic Medical Service of Tijuana, waiting to be delivered to his family members who are performing the legal proceedings.”

Mexican officials did not immediately respond to Yahoo’s request for comment.

Barnett’s death devastated the comedy world, and comedians including Chelsea Peretti, Ben Kissel and David Alan Grier shared their sadness on social media.

Barnett will be remembered in a celebration of his life at the music venue the Bell House in Brooklyn, New York City, on Friday.

In addition to his work on Rel, Barnett’s career included writing and producing episodes of Broad City and writing for The Carmichael Show and The Eric Andre Show.
