Comedian Jo Koy to host the Golden Globes

'This is that moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud,' said Koy in a statement.

Jo Koy is going from Easter Sunday to Sunday at the Golden Globes.

CBS announced on Thursday that Koy — the comedian and actor who recently appeared in The Haunted Mansion and Awkwafina is Nora from Queenswill host the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards next month live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The Filipino-American comedian, known for his frequent late-night TV appearances and Netflix comedy specials, is hosting the Globes for the first time.

“I’ve stepped onto a lot of stages around the world in my career, but this one is going to be extra special. I’m so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes this year,” said Koy in a statement. “This is that moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud. Mahal Kita (Google it)!”

After airing on NBC since 1996, the Globes are moving to CBS for this year's ceremony. Once overseen by the now-defunct Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Globes honor achievements in both film and television. This year's film nominees include Barbie, Maestro, and The Boy and the Heron, and TV honorees include Abbott Elementary, The Last of Us, and Beef.

Koy frequently highlights his Filipino culture in his comedy, most recently in Netflix's Live from the LA Forum. "One thing I try and express a lot is when we turn off the light, we're all the same color," he told EW in 2022. "We're all laughing at the same thing. My story is relatable to you no matter what color you are."

The 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards air Sunday, January 7 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
