Colts make it official: Andrew Luck ruled out for Week 1
Not that it’s a surprise at this point, but Andrew Luck won’t play for the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1 at the Los Angeles Rams.
The unanswered question is, how many more games will Luck miss?
Indianapolis has been fairly secretive about Luck’s recovery from shoulder surgery. But the team has announced Luck is out and Scott Tolzien will start in his place. While it’s not surprising considering Luck was just activated off the physically unable to perform list over the weekend, it’s concerning the Colts didn’t bother waiting until late in the week to see if Luck made any progress. On Monday morning, they already knew Luck wouldn’t be ready for Sunday’s game.
The Colts will have a hard time staying afloat without Luck. Tolzien has started three games and his teams haven’t won any of them (though he started for one tie with the Green Bay Packers). He has 128 career passes and a 66.4 passer rating. The Colts depend heavily on Luck, and without him Indianapolis is not going to win many games.

The best-case scenario is that Luck returns to practice this week, the slow approach the Colts have taken to his rehabilitation pays off and he can play in Week 2. But we have no idea at this point, considering the Colts haven’t offered much information. Indianapolis has to hope that it isn’t too far behind by the time their do-everything quarterback can play again.
