Colton Underwood is looking forward to celebrating his one-year marriage anniversary to Jordan C. Brown.

Following his reveal on The Masked Singer, the Bachelor Nation star, 32, tells PEOPLE that the pair have the festivities all planned out — and they plan to follow tradition when it comes to gifts for the special milestone.

“We're following the traditional anniversary. I think [the] first year's paper, so our gifts are going to be paper this year, whatever that means,” says Underwood. “So I have to do some homework on exactly what I'm getting him.”

He adds that they plan to take a trip down memory lane as part of their anniversary, saying, “We are doing a little romantic trip back up to Big Sur where we got engaged and we're going to exchange our paper gifts.”

He adds that they also plan to do a “baby-moon” in the future “whenever that does happen.”

The TV personality further opened up about their “private” relationship dynamic and noted that what he’s learned from his marriage so far is “just how much I needed a partner like Jordan.”

“I think having somebody who understands the work that I do and the lane that I'm in with entertainment, but not wanting to be overly present in it, I think is just so healthy,” Underwood says.

“I think the dynamic of us having our relationship remain somewhat private, but also still serve as role models to people in our community and try to speak out when things are really important to us and finding that balance,” he continues. “He's been such a good sounding board and just person for me to really lean on when I need advice or something.”

Underwood, who exchanged vows with Brown during a three-day wedding celebration in Napa Valley, California, last May, told PEOPLE at his inaugural Pickle! for Purpose Celebrity Pickleball Tournament event in October that "married life has been great."

The pair first met at a party in Los Angeles in April 2021, and got engaged in February 2022 in Big Sur, California.

"It was very natural and organic, how it progressed," Underwood told PEOPLE of their relationship, as Brown added, "We both just had a gut feeling."

"I've never been more sure about something," Underwood said. "He has the biggest heart and he's such a good friend to all of the people in his life. He goes out of his way to take care of his friends and his family. That speaks volumes. It was one of the first things that I noticed about him."
