The film adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical hits theaters Christmas Day.
Fans were seeing purple on Wednesday, as the stars turned out for the premiere of The Color Purple in Los Angeles.
The movie — a film adaptation of the Alice Walker novel and the Broadway musical it inspired — comes from director Blitz Bazawule, and provides what Warner Bros. Pictures has described as a "bold new take on the beloved classic" about "the extraordinary sisterhood of three women who share one unbreakable bond."
Fantasia Barrino plays Celie in her feature film debut, while Danielle Brooks — also in her first movie role — plays Sofia, the role originated on screen by Oprah Winfrey in the 1985 Steven Spielberg motion picture.
Winfrey, who is producing this time around, was among the celebs on the red carpet Thursday night at the Academy Museum. She was joined by many members of the film's starry cast, including Taraji P. Henson, Halle Bailey, Corey Hawkins, David Alan Grier, Colman Domingo, H.E.R., Ciara and Deon Cole.
