Colman Domingo explains why Euphoria Season 3 has been delayed, with the HBO show last airing in February 2022.

In a new interview, Domingo opened up about why the series that stars Zendaya has been pushed back and said it had to do with creator Sam Levinson adjusting the story to reflect the real world.

“[Sam is] a person who writes and rewrites and writes and rewrites again, because I think he’s wrestling with what’s important,” Domingo told GQ in an interview recently. “He’s responding immediately to what the ills of the world are. I know that the one thing I can tell you is that he’s very much interested in the existential question of who we are right now. Our souls. That’s what he wants to figure out with season three.”

Domingo recurs on Euphoria, playing the role of Ali, a man recovering from drug addiction who becomes a sponsor and mentor to Zendaya’s Rue. In August 2023, Levinson teased in an interview with Elle, that Season 3 was a “film noir” and said Rue would “explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.”

Euphoria is a teen drama set in the fictional town of East Highland, California, who seek hope while balancing the strains of love, loss, and addiction. The series is based on an Israeli show of the same name created by Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin.

Jacob Elordi also stars in the series and recently joked about the delay of the series and the actors aging out of their roles.

“I hope it’s soon, or they’re going to have to Benjamin Button me or something,” Elordi joked on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon about the show’s delay. “I’m going to have a bad back walking down the hallway, you know?”
