Colleen Hoover‘s novel Verity will be developed into a film at Amazon MGM Studios.

The Hollywood Reporter announced that Eat the Cat’s Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund are set to produce the project, while a script is currently in the works by Hillary Seitz. Seitz previously wrote Christopher Nolan’s 2002 film InsomniaEagle Eye in 2008, and 2021’s The Unforgivable.

The bestselling novel tells the story of Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who accepts a job from Jeremy Crawford, the husband of famed author Verity Crawford, to finish his wife’s successful thriller series. Soon, Ashleigh discovers shocking manuscripts by the titular author, who suffers from a mysterious accident, and descends into a dark exploration of the Crawfords’ past.

While Hoover self-published Verity in 2018, Grand Central Publishing acquired the novel in 2021. The book spent 103 weeks on The New York Times Best Sellers list and in 2023, more than one million copies were sold. (Notably, in 2022, the BookTok author outsold the Bible by at least 3 million units.)

Last year, Time named Hoover one of the 100 most influential people in the world. The film based on and titled after her other highly popular novel, It Ends With Us, is set to hit theaters on Aug. 9, and stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, who also directs the film. Hoover, who is an executive producer, told People that Lively delivers a “captivating, stunning, and emotional” performance. “There aren’t enough words to describe her phenomenal talent,” said the writer. “Blake Lively truly brought Lily Bloom to life in a way that exceeded all my expectations.”
