Kaepernick promoted the shoe release on Instagram with a video featuring the song, 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine,' and the message, "Excited to share this project with you. Drops Monday, Dec. 23rd. #TrueTo7"

According to Yahoo Sports, The former QB also announced that Shoe Palace and Jimmy Jazz Stores would be donating profits of its sales of the shoe to "organizations fighting to end systemic oppression."

Winning Partnership

Earlier this year, Nike and Colin's relationship seemed to be strained after the former San Francisco 49er's quarterback went public about his disapproval of the shoe company's fourth of July shoe release.

Nike was prepared to release the “Betsy Ross” American flag shoe, but before it could so, Kaepernick criticized the shoe for being offensive. He connected it to a period of slavery and white supremacy. The shoe was pulled from production.

“This Air Force 1 season, Nike partnered with a collective of collaborators to design an AF1 that connects to their life personally. Colin was identified because we believe his voice and perspective inspire many generations on and off the field,” Nike said of their working with Kaepernick.

New Face Of 'Just Do It' Campaign

Kaepernick was thrust into the national spotlight after taking a knee during an NFL football game's national anthem to protest systemic police brutality and racial injustice.

The quarterback sued the NFL alleging the league and its owners colluded to keep him of its teams because of his political views.
Kaepernick and another former player, Eric Reid, ended its battle with the league for a reported multi-million dollar settlement.

In 2018, Nike signed Kaepernick and featured him in its 30th anniversary “Just Do It” ad campaign. According to reports, sales surged after the ad’s release. The campaign also won Nike an Emmy for outstanding commercial.
